Dental Crowns

What are Dental Crowns?

Everybody has natural dental crowns on their original teeth. These “crowns” are made of white enamel on the outside of your teeth and yellow dentin that supports the enamel beneath it. An artificial dental crown, also known as a “cap” replaces damaged or missing tooth structure and looks like your original teeth.

Cases when dental crowns are needed:

  • Your teeth fillings have been damaged
  • Your teeth have been chipped
  • You have sensitive teeth
  • Your teeth are discoloured and you would like whiter teeth
  • Protect a week tooth
  • You have extensive damage from tooth decay
  • To support a tooth that has been broken or worn down
  • You would like to improve your smile

How many appointments do you need to get dental crowns?

At Dr Cernys dental clinic in Lonehill, Johannesburg, we will assess your dental situation and get your new dental crowns fitted in the shortest time possible. Depending on the severity, it will take approximately two appointments to prepare your dental crown. During these appointments, a mould will be made of your teeth and a temporary crown will be made to get your tooth ready.

What are crowns made of?

Dental crowns can be made of a variety of materials including porcelain crowns, gold crowns, all-metal crowns and ceramic crowns. We will advise you and find out what your needs are to decide what would be the best option for you.

Main benefits of dental crowns:

  • Strengthen your teeth
  • Protect your remaining tooth structure
  • Improve your appearance with the perfect smile

When you book your appointment at Dr Cerny’s professional clinic online, rest assured that you will get the best dental care and that your restorative dentistry will be done in the shortest time possible.
