You can also help prevent dental cavities by avoiding certain foods and beverages. Foods that stick to your teeth like caramel or peanut butter should be limited and you should brush your teeth as soon as possible after eating them. Foods that contain a lot of sugar are especially inviting to bacteria. Be conscious of the beverages you drink throughout the day. When you consume soft drinks and juice, you are bathing your teeth in sugar.

The timing of your meals may help prevent dental cavities too. If you snack constantly throughout the day or frequently sip on beverages, your teeth are under constant assault. If you do not eat between meals and limit your drinks to water, then your teeth have time to repair themselves from the damage caused by bacterial acids.

Teeth are able to repair minor damage thanks to the action of your saliva which inactivates bacterial acid. For this reason, sugarless gum may help prevent cavities. Chewing gum increases the amount of saliva in your mouth that helps rinse away bacteria and neutralizes acid.

When it comes to preventing dental cavities, one of the most important things you can do is visit your dentist regularly.
