Tooth decay can be caused by a number of different things. Unfortunately, some people are more prone to decaying teeth than others. Other foods that contribute to tooth decay are basically all that are highly processed and high in refined sugar. It isn’t that you can never eat these types of foods, just make sure that it does not become a daily habit.

If you do consume these types of foods, in order to avoid decaying teeth, just make sure that you drink a large glass of water afterward in order to get rid of the acid that has been formed on your teeth from the consumption of those particular foods. You also need to make sure that you brush your teeth at least twice a day. Three is recommended, but twice is more reasonable for those who are always busy. Anything less than that really isn’t that effective. If it helps, carry a travel tooth brush around with you so that it will be easier to remember, as well as more convenient when you are not home. Be sure to use mouthwash twice a day to keep the level of bacteria to a minimum.

Flossing is very important, however, most people do not floss as much as they should. Flossing helps to keep your chances of gum disease and tooth decay to a minimum. You can buy a box of floss for less than $5.00 at your local discount store or pharmacy. Be sure that you use a quality toothpaste like Colgate or Crest in order to keep your teeth as clean as possible. Try purchasing a toothpaste that contains cavity prevention as well as whitening strength for the maximum benefit. Most importantly, the best way to avoid tooth decay is to visit a dentist for regular cleanings. Normally, a dentist will ask you to come every six months for a cleaning. While at their office, they will also check to see if you have any decaying teeth or other developing problems.

Your teeth influence your appearance by a great deal. Tooth decay can cause you to feel bad about yourself, and lose your sense overall self esteem.
